miraDry vs botox | Which is right for you?

Excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis is not uncommon and thanks to new technology, is very easy to treat. In fact, one in ten people suffer from this condition. At Radiance, we offer two different treatments that will reduce the amount you sweat, miraDry and botox in the underarms. After both treatments, you will continue to sweat normally in other areas of your body, so it is completely safe. In this article, we will discuss the two options to give you more insight as to which might be more suitable for you.

miraDry treatment and aftercare

miraDry is suitable for anyone who suffers from excessive sweating or has been diagnosed with axillary hyperhidrosis. It is completely safe and has very few side effects. This treatment is extremely effective and you can expect to see a reduction of sweat by up to 82% after your first session, however some clients may need two sessions. The cost of this treatment starts from £1695.

This simple treatment can have other benefits such as a reduction in underarm hair and odour. The miraDry laser uses thermal energy that targets and eliminates the sweat glands in your underarm. You’ll be pleased to hear that once those sweat glands are gone, they are gone! This is why our clients love the miraDry system so much, because it is completely permanent, and the treatment itself takes less than one hour. Anaesthetic is applied to the area to avoid any discomfort, then thermal lasers target the sweat and odour glands and permanently eliminate them.

As far as aftercare goes, this is also fairly simple and nothing too difficult to remember.  Downtime can take several weeks due to swelling of the underarm area. You may experience some bruising or numbness in the area as well, but this is nothing to worry about. Avoid applying antiperspirant or deodorant to the skin for the first 2 weeks. Wear a loose top to reduce irritation and avoid any excessive activity for a few days.

Botox injections in the armpits

Botox in the armpit area is also very effective at stopping sweating and really does have the power to change people’s lives. Some people see 100% reduction in sweat in the underarm area. These Botox injections work by blocking a chemical in the body that activates the sweat glands. This treatment is less expensive, starting at just £395.

Local anaesthetic is applied to the area and then around 10-15 injections of botox are injected into each armpit using a very small needle. Having botox in your armpits to stop sweating is a very popular treatment and one that a lot of our patients rely on.

A reduction of sweating can be noticed around 48 hours after treatment and full results can be seen after 2 weeks. The effects of botox on the armpits are not permanent and results can be expected to last around 6 months. You will need to repeat this treatment every 4-6 months, depending on how long it lasts.  As with any aesthetic treatment, patient results may vary.

You may experience a slight redness and bee sting sensation after botox in the armpit, but this should only last a day or so. Apart from that, there shouldn’t be any other side effects, so the downtime is relatively quick.
