Laser Pigmentation Treatment targets and removes areas of pigmentation on the face and body that are affected by sun damage, freckles or pigmentation. Laser pigmentation treatment can be used to treat areas effected on the face and body but pigmentation is most commonly apparent in the face, chest and hands.
Pigmentation is caused by excess melanin. A number of factors can trigger an increase in melanin production but the main ones are sun exposure, hormonal influences, age and skin injuries or inflammation. It can lead to darker areas of the skin often called age spots or melasma.
The laser light is absorbed by the melanin – or pigment – in the skin causing heating of the cells and eventually damaging them so that the body naturally removes them. The pigment appears to darken as the pigmented cells are lifted to the surface forming a very light scab. The cells are then naturally shed after a few days this reducing or removing the pigment completely.
You can expect to see results after two weeks from your first laser pigmentation treatment. You will be advised if you need a course of treatments depending on the size and severity of the area.
