As we age, we lose volume in various areas of our face; the cheeks, temples, lips, and around the mouth which can be seen as signs of ageing. We also lose the elasticity of the skin and the combination leads to wrinkles and sagging.
Botox is an art and it is important to get the treatment done by a medical practitioner who is experienced and attains the required certifications. The aesthetic industry in the UK is lightly regulated, which subsequently means there are many under-qualified people who will offer the treatment. Unfortunately, fillers can be legally injected by anyone. Only a trained healthcare professional, such as a doctor, dentist, pharmacist prescriber, or nurse prescriber can prescribe Botox.
Getting Botox for the first time can be a daunting experience, which is why it’s important to go somewhere you trust. If you are considering the treatment, Dr Ros will invite you in for a full facial assessment to discuss which route is best for you. At Radiance, we are perfectionists, so you will always be offered a free follow-up appointment after your first treatment to make sure you’re happy with the results.
What is the difference between botox and filler?
This is a very commonly asked question. However, the answer is fairly simple. The rule of thumb is that we use botox from the eyes up, so on areas such as the forehead, and filler from the eyes down, so for lips and around the mouth area. This does of course vary from each client which is why going to an aesthetician with plenty of experience is essential.
Botox helps to temporarily relax the muscles in the face to smooth out skin and can be used as a preventative measure against permanent creases and overactivity. It is suitable for both men and women. We prefer to avoid the ‘frozen’ look at Radiance. Instead, we like to offer more natural results. Botox can be a great solution for anyone concerned about their ‘crow feet’ area or lines and wrinkles on the forehead.
Dermal filler is used to restore volume when it has been lost in the face such as in the cheeks, around the mouth, or in the lips. It is an excellent way to instantaneously offer a glow to the skin for a natural, youthful look. The soft hyaluronic acid gel in dermal fillers closely resembles the natural hyaluronic acid of the body that diminishes with age. Some dermal fillers also stimulate the production of collagen, tightening the skin.
