What’s the difference between botox and fillers?

What is the difference between Botox and Dermal fillers? Find out which may be the right treatment for you.

What is Botox?

The general shape and expression of our face is managed by our muscles. When we smile or frown, a series of muscles tightens. This will pull and crease the skin. Over time, these creases become ‘set’ – you may have noticed the 11’s between your brows, or crows feet around your eyes.

Botox works by relaxing the facial muscles so that they don’t crease the skin. This helps prevent lines from forming and softens the expression by removing existing lines.

At first, the results will last about 3 1/2 to 4 months. By returning for repeat treatments, before the muscles have got back to their full power, you’ll extend the time that the treatment lasts. Eventually, your muscles will ‘forget to frown’.

What are Dermal fillers?

As we age, the flesh around our face naturally loses its plumpness. Plus, for some people, their bone structure lends itself to gaunt or shallow areas around the face. Dermal fillers are used to replace this volume loss and can help to address tear troughs, cheeks and lips. Most dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid (the skin’s natural moisturiser) which plumps up the skin.

Fillers can last from 6-18 months depending on the area being treated, the product used, the amount of mobility in the area and the rate at which the body breaks down the filler.

Which is right for you?

At Radiance, we’ll always make a proper assessment to ensure you get the right treatment. But to get you thinking, here are a few guiding rules of thumb.

– Botox is used from the eyes up & dermal fillers from the eyes down

– Botox is for lines caused by our facial expressions

– Filler is for volume & lines caused by the structure of our face

– Botox helps forehead, brow lines & crow’s feet

– Fillers reduce sleep wrinkles, laughter lines & lip-lines
